From the moment the Old Planters settled Beverly, we have been Salem's valued neighbors to the north. The history of Beverly, just like the history of Salem, is the history of our country.
The tour begins in the parking lot beside the John Balch House at 117 Cabot St. in downtown Beverly, headquarters of Historic Beverly. Your guide Roger Herson begins by sharing a general history of Beverly, and how we have often been at the forefront of American influence and culture. It should be mentioned that $5 out of every tour ticket we sell gets donated to Historic Beverly, and guests on my tours are allowed into their museum and historic homes (just not DURING a tour).
Nicknamed "the Garden City" Beverly was once a major vacation spot for many of the rich and wealthy in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries helping to solidify it's nickname. There are STILL a lot of great options for any visitor. This tour will help point out some of the best places downtown.
Finally the question people almost always ask.... did the witch trials impact Beverly? Not only is the answer yes, but some of the most dramatic events that impacted the witch trials happened right here in Beverly. From a hidden murder, to one of the few confessed witches, and including the famed Reverend John Hale. In fact, Beverly's own history in the witch trials helps to debunk many common misconceptions people have about the events of 1692.
Purchasing a ticket for one of our public tours includes admission to the other public tour as well. Want to know more about our Salem tour?
